The payment problem was annoying. The upgrade that followed was a very good apology.
I came to Hong Kong to see a friend who works at HSBC. That meant a lot of banking talk at dinner and a real need to get my own work done before it. At check-in, the hotel had a problem with my payment. The staff fixed it, then moved me into one of the top room types. I am staying unbiased here, but yes, getting a much better room helped.
The room was large, quiet, and old-style. Not old in a broken way. More like someone decided dark wood and a large TV could solve most problems. The bed was good, the harbour view was hard to argue with, and I could think in the room.
Work was only okay. The proper lounge was kept for Club Room guests. I could use it after the upgrade, but that rule still felt mean. A normal table and chair should not sit behind a status check. The room itself worked for short bursts, though I would not choose it for a full week of calls.
The staff handled the payment issue well and the upgrade was very generous. I would stay again, but I would check the lounge rules before booking. Final score: 7 out of 10.
